Reverdy C. Ransom Collection, 1906-1957.

Reverdy C. Ransom was a church leader, civil rights activist and editor. He graduated from Wilberforce University in 1886 after spending a year at Oberlin College. He was licensed to preach in the A.M.E. Church in 1883, he was ordained a deacon in 1886 and an elder in 1888. He was elected the 48th Bishop of the Church in 1924 and retained that post until his retirement in 1952. Reverdy was editor of the A.M.E. Church Review from 1912 to 1924.
