6 WOMAN'S MITE MISSIONARY SOCIETY
Ohio Conference Branch, made an excellent report and a
standing vote of thanks was extended her for her splendid
report. Dean Woodson was asked to conduct the Bible
reading for the afternoon meeting. Recess for dinner.
Friday Afternoon
The convention opened with Bible study, conducted by
Dean Woodson. Dr. Gregg, the newly elected President of
Wilberforce, was introduced to the convention. The minutes
of the executive board were read and adopted. See report.
The President stated that more should be said concerning
the work in Basuto Land. Mrs. Dovie Clark was called on
and spoke very extensively on the work. She told how hard
Mr. Tontsi was striving to establish the work in Basuto
land. He is very desirous of having a mission house there.
An African chief had given thirty years ago a tract of land
on which to build a church and nothing had been done. He
asks, when will the Christian people of America redeem
their promise? The Xenia district having started this work
in the district meeting held at Cedarville at which time Mr.
Tontsi was present. Mrs. Woodson spoke further on the
work, bringing the picture of Basuto land before us. She
spoke very touchingly concerning this and the secretary
read a letter from Mr. Tontsi in which he gave estimates as
follows: Stone walls, roofing material, ceiling and flooring,
$856.00; doors and windows, $187.20; hinges, nails and
water tank, $50.75; railage, $50.00; total, $1,143.95. Dr.
Gregg further explained the work of South Africa. He
stated that it would be a wonderful thing for this branch
to start this work as the native African wonders why the
Christians of this country have such wonderful churches
and yet fail to help them get churches. A resolution was
presented by Mrs. Dovie Clark pertaining to the building of
the Mission House in Basuto land. On motion the resolu-
tion was adopted. By common consent $2,000 was stated
as an amount to be raised in one year. See resolution.
