                   The Mission of a Star.
                      BY MRS. MINNIE MOORE WATERS.

            O, listen. children while I tell.
              The mission of a star;
            'Twas placed in heaven by God's own power
              To guide men from afar.
             It shone with such a wondrous light,
              This star so bright and fair,
            That wise men knew to earth had come
              The Promised Gift so rare.
            It seemed to say to all mankind,
              "Jesus removes each bar
            That separates man from his God:"
              'Tis ever called His star.
            It led to where the Saviour lay.
              A babe in Bethlehem:
            And as they worshipped Him, they knew
              He had been sent to them.
            Suppose that star had changed its course
              And wondered to and fro?
            Those wise men surely would have lost
              The way they wished to go.
            But true to the Divine intent
               It proved a trusty guide.
            And lighted ev'ry step they took
              To Christ, their Saviour's side.
            Do you not think that guiding stars
              Are needed in this day
            To show to men right paths of life,
               Directing them "The Way"?
            They have the ministers, the Bible.
               And Sunday-schools, you say;
            Yet men in darkness daily die.
               Instead of in "The Way."
            How can we help to guide their feet
               To Jesus who hath died,
            That men may live in union sweet
               With Him, the Crucified?
