            GENERAL SUMMARY OF METHODISTS.

                    THE METHODIST YEAR BOOK 1882.



     The following summaries have been compiled from the latest offi-
cial statistics reported by the several branches of the great Wesleyan
Methodist family. Those of the Methodist Episcopal Church are to
July 1, 1882, and include the official numerical returns of the autum-
nal Conferences of 1881 and the spring Conferences of 1882.  Those
of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, are  for  1881.  Those of
the Canadian, British, and affiliating Conferences are for 1882. In
two or three of the churches the numbers of local preachers are
"estimated;" but in each of those by distinguished members of large
observation in the respective denominations.
