	Meeting of Union Ass. Aug. 31st 1857

House called to order Pres. in the chair 

Minutes of last meeting were then 

read by Sec. and with slight correction 

as to date, were approved.  On motion of 

Mr. Layton it was resolved that as our 

organization was as yet imperfect an 

applicant for membership he admitted on 

this occasion without usual form carried

On motion of Mr. Fox it was then agreed 

that should any member on making a motion 

fail to rise to his feet, he shall be fined 

in the Sum of twenty-five cents.

Persons who had been admitted to the meeting 

by especial permission ... them permitted 

to be ... members by complying with the 

terms of the Constitution.  Mr. Jesse ... 

then came forward as per motion.

     The committee who had been appointed at 

the first prelimary meeting to draft By-Laws 

for Ass. then reported a Series which after 

full consideration were adopted in due 

succession.  Subsequent to this an additional 

Series, embracing a [crossed out words "Series of"] System of fines 

were by permission of the house presented by Mr. T 

Peoples.  These after being discussed at large 

were on motion of W.R. Casey indefinitely post-

poned.  A motion was then made by Mr. Alex 

McCoul that the meeting hour of the Ass. be 

from 8 oclock to 10 P.M.  The Society then in 

accordance with the calls of the By-Laws 

proceeded to the election of Serjeant-at-arms 

Mr. Jesse Orritt was elected to that officer

On motion the consideration of the By 

Laws which were superinduced to the report 

of committee was resumed and finally 

adopted, with the amendment that the
