	Redoak Church August 9th 1837

	Ripley A.S.Society met at the 

   Call of the President

		 Opened with Prayer

   The object of the meeting being stated by the 

   President to be an effort to prevent the 

  anexation of Texas to this Union  

   It was Resolved that the Executive

   Committee take measures to circulate 

   petitions for signatures and forward the

  same to Congress for the abolition of 

  slavery in the District of Columbia, and

  against the anexation of Texas to the 

  United States  Also petitions to the State Legislature 

  asking the repeal of such laws as makes 

  the completion of men [written above "colour of the skin"] a qualification to 

  rate or give testimony

	Ordered That the Treasuer take up 

   a subscription for the purpose of paying 

    the expences of circulating a petition & 

  to pay the expences of the deligate to the aniversary
