 New Orleans, La.--On Wednesday, January 22d, at 9:30 a. m. in
Union Bethel A. M. E. Church, of which Rev. J. B. Billups isthe un-
tiring pastor, Bishop M. B. Salter convened the 43d session of the
Louisiana Annual Conference. Dr. J. W. Washington, the much be-
loved and very popular pastor of historic St. James, was elected for
the thirteenth time consecutively, as chief secretary. The Confer-
