have gone to him for money with which to purchase food
for the college horses, to have him say, "I have not a cent;
there is no money in the university treasury and I have
none." I have seen him, when President of the university,
sick of opposition, almost disheartened for want of coopera-
tion, but he prayed for wisdom and strength from God. His
examples were nearly always worthy of emulation. They
are perpetuated through the generations as the acts of a
patriarch, a seer.
