516 A. M. E. REVIEW.

                THE LONDON ALL-RACES MEETING.
The meeting of the All Races convention in London this summer is very
important, both as to the personnel of the participants and the influence its
discussions will have upon the public.
Dr. W. E. B. DuBois will, it is safe to say, be the ablest and most interest-
ing representative America will send and doubtless his thoughtful presenta-
tion of the Negro's cause will do much to clarify foreign views on our great
bite noir in the United States. Distinguished men like Lord Balfour and
Wu Ting Fang are to take important places in the deliberations and doubt-
less wide publicity will be given to the proceedings through the press of the
world in all languages.
Shunt it aside as we may, this race question, especially as between the
so-called white and dark peoples, is the leading one of our century, over-
topping in momentousness any economic question presented to England,
Germany, France or America for solution; for it involves the whole question
of world peace which men are longing for; and, indeed, the whole matter and
fabric of civilization is involved.
The imperious and arrogant attitude of the White world must be changed
or the future holds a contest beside which the greatest wars of history will be
but play. Looming in the future are Japan, China, Africa, all populated by
uncounted millions and, in such a struggle, all drawn together as dark races
against a common foe.
Let the Caucasian civilization recognize its stewardship for the benefit
of all humanity; let it recognize the equal dignity and divinity of manhood
under any skin, and the crisis will be safely bridged.

                            WILBERFORCE.
Wilberforce, named in honor of one of the noblest of men, is not only the
first altar in America dedicated to intellectuality by the exiled and oppressed
children of sun-kissed Africa; but Wilberforce is one of the foci of civilization,
the heart of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Few become dis-
tinguished in this church who have not visited this fountain head and fewer
still remain prominent in this denomination without a pilgrimage to this
mecca of denominational fervor.
The best time to note the vital importance of Wilberforce is at the Com-
mencement season immediately preceding the General Conference. All the
controlling forces of the church gather here. Godly desire to serve an un-
holy ambition for place walk hand in hand; for in the land of Columbus as in
the land of Uz "when the sons of God came to present themselves before the
Lord, Satan came also among them" (Job 1:6.)
Nowhere not even in the rapt vision of a Zoroastrian priest, does good and
evil more actively contend with each other than upon this historic ground on
such occasions. Life is all tension and expectation stands on tip-toe. But
youth anticipates many things that never come to pass, and age meets the
inevitable in unexpected ways.
