524 A. M. E. REVIEW.

  Springfield, Ill.--On Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 9 a. m. Bishop C. T.
Shaffer convened the 40th session of the Illinois Annual Conference in St.
Paul A. M. E. church of which Rev. T. Price is the loving, faithful and
popular pastor, who has served this church for five years. The Conference
was well attended and entertained. Dr. Price and his dear people deserve
much credit for the entertainment. The 40th Anniversary of the minister-
ial life of the Right Reverend C. T. Shaffer, M.D., D. D., was royally cele-
brated by the members of the Illinois Conference at St. Paul church on
Friday evening, September 16, 1910. The special program of well prepared
papers were well rendered. The presentations by Rev. N. J. McCracken,
Rev. H. Simon, the writer and Rev. E. T. Cottman, were forty dollars in gold
from each District by the three Presiding Elders. The Springfield District
of which, Rev. E. T. Cottman, D. D., is the Presiding Elder, presented not
only the forty dollars in gold, but a magnificent mahogany chest, containing
fifty-four pieces of silver. The writer presented a card, containing scripture
verses, arranged in the figure forty with Allen Christian Endeavor League
colors, showing the number of years of the Bishop's ministerial life. I was
well cared for in the beautiful home of Mr. and Mrs. Clark Duncan, 312 N.
13th Street. Rev. and Mrs. Price left not a stone unturned in making my
stay pleasant. To know them is to love them. The departments were all
well represented. The Review received a healthy support-a large list of
subscribers.
