436 BIBLE NAMES AND THEIR SIGNIFICANCE

BIBLE NAMES AND THEIR SIGNIFICANCE
IT is indeed remarkable and interesting
to notice the nomenclature of the Old
Testament, or the names given to
persons in this wonderful book as
they are found in the original He-
brew, the oldest language in the
world.
In these modern times, the proper names of persons
are duplicated; as, for instance, "Samuel Jones" "Wil-
liam R. Smith" "James Johnson." and the like. This
system of namning persons seems to have come down,to ,
us with the Christian dispensation. This method of
naming has no significance or meaning whatever but is
simply to distinguish one individual from another. It
is sometimes asked: "What is in a name?" We may
answver, that in some names there is much meaning
while in some other names there is no meaning at all
How many readers of the Bible have stopped long
enough in their research and study to ask why the
personal names of the Bible were not duplicated? In
our opinion (though it may appear to others of little
interest at first sight), it is a matter that should interest
all Bible readers. There must have been some reason
for it.
