* This worthy man was accidentally killed. A large tree he had nearly chopped down in
clearing obstructions from before the guns of Fort Shaler, swayed by the wind, fell upon and
crushed him, a day or two only before the colored men were relieved from duty; after their
return to Cincinnati he was buried by his late companions and the officers of the Black Brigade
-much honored and lamented.
