those locks you once as much admired and 
which it was my great delight to cultivate to please 
you.  Military discipline has caused sad havoc 
to locks they now are less than a prayers 
length.
Tell Sister Sake(?) I acknowledge the great-
ful receipt of her letter and ask for her 
pardon in not answering more promptly 
but tell her she has my highest respect 
and brotherly esteem and she must con-
tinue her kind favors.  I am happy to 
hear that she is attending school and in-
proving her mind were she my own sis-
ter I should feel proud of her.  She must 
keep the best of company both male and 
female if she wishes to be respectable and 
highly esteemed by worthy and sensible men 
and women.
Ella! You don't love me do you?  Kiss me 
then! I wish I had some little girl to kiss me 
would you kiss me if I come home?  
I will write you another letter before long.  
Jamie! Who are you?  Are you Pa's bug? Is 
Jamie bug?  May I call you bug?  You are Pa's soft 
meat aint you?  And here is My Big Gun the
