Charles Burleigh Purvis (1842-1919)

Description:  Print of Charles Burleigh Purvis (1842-1919), physician, medical educator, and hospital administrator. Purvis attended Oberlin College from 1860 to 1863 and in 1865 graduated from Wooster Medical College (later Western Reserve Medical School) in Cleveland. He was assistant surgeon and surgeon-in-chief of the Freedmen's Hospital on the grounds of Howard University in Washington, D.C. and a member of the medical faculty of Howard University.
