James Monroe Trotter (1842-1892)

Description:  Print of James Monroe Trotter (1842-1892), Army officer, Democratic politician, author, and amateur musician. Trotter attended school in Cincinnati, Hamilton and Athens, Ohio and taught school in Pike County, Ohio. He served in the 55th Massachusetts Regiment during the Civil War, rising through the ranks to become one of the regiment's four African-American commissioned officers.
