Description:  Photograph of James Gilliland (1769-1845). While living in Kentucky, eleven members of the Presbyterian Church petitioned against Gilliland's ordination because of his strong, anti-slavery sentiment. Gilliland claimed that he was the first abolitionist to live in Brown County.
