Rush Richard Sloane (1828-1908)

Description:  Engraving of Rush Richard Sloane (1828-1908), a lawyer, anti-slavery advocate, judge and Mayor of Sandusky, Erie County, Ohio. In 1852, Sloane was instrumental in the escape of seven slaves in Sandusky, where they had been arrested by their masters. He was prosecuted under the Fugitive Slave Law of 1850 and paid over $ 6,000.00 in damages and costs.
